Morpholine

Product

Morpholine is an organic, heterocyclic, colorless liquid with the formula C4H8ONH. It is hygroscopic in nature and completely miscible with water. This heterocycle features both amine and ether functional groups. Due to the presence of amine group it has a characteristic amine odour and also it shows basic nature, and its conjugate acid is called morpholinium. It is synthesized by the dehydration of diethanolamine with sulfuric acid.

This compound shows varieties of characteristic applications such as accelerant in rubber manufacturing, sulfuration agent, cleanser, descaling agent, antirust, anti-scorching agent, antiseptic, surfactant, textile printing & dyeing agent, optical bleaching agent, chemical plating bath, antioxidant, hydrolyzing agent, initiator, developer, fruit preserving agent, deodorizer, brightener and organic solvents. It is added to some waxes used to special kind of coatings on apples which is identified that morpholine used in apple coatings does not present a risk to human health.

It is widely used in many industries but this compound is well known in the industries such as medicine, pesticide, animal medicine, petroleum and extraction of coke and aromatic hydrocarbon.

Apart from these applications it also finds applications in automobile polish, tile cleaners, non-agricultural disinfectant and polishing of floors. A trace amount of morpholine is used in helmet and other equipment, it is also sprayed in locker room as disinfectant.

Uses
Morpholine are mainly used to manufacture rubber accelerant (such as NOBS, OTOS and MDS), sulfuration agent (like DT-DM), cleanser, descaling agent, antirust, anti-scorching agent, antiseptic, surfactant, textile printing & dyeing agent, optical bleaching agent, chemical plating bath, antioxidant, hydrolyzing agent, initiator, developer, fruit preserving agent, deodorizer, brightener and organic solvents. It is widely used in many industries such as medicine, pesticide, animal medicine, petroleum and extraction of coke aromatic hydrocarbon.
In some countries, a great deal of morpholine is used for antirust, descaling and metal cleaning, especially for antirust and anticorrosive in high temperature conditions. In boiler maintenance fields, amount of morpholine is also used as descaling agent. Owing to its unique chemical characters, morpholine has become one of the most important fine petroleum chemical products.

Use of Morpholine in Apple Coatings
Morpholine is a substance which is added to some waxes used to coat apples. It is normally added to the wax as morpholine oleate and dissolves and spreads the wax, allowing for application of the coating in a water-based liquid form. When the wax is dried by a hot air treatment, any residual morpholine evaporates and only trace levels are left. Its identified that morpholine used in apple coatings does not present a risk to human health.
This compound is also used in the following fields
• Automobile body polish and cleaners
• Bathroom tub and tile cleaners
• Disinfectants (nonagricultural)
• Floor polish
• Furniture polish and cleaners
• Glass window cleaning preparations
• Hair mousse
• Household hard surface cleaners (aerosol and liquid)
• Laundry starch preparations
• Miscellaneous paint-related products
• Other automotive chemicals
• Other laundry aids, including ironing aids and dry cleaning
• Other polishing preparations and related products
• Other specialty cleaning and sanitation products
• Oven cleaners
• Paint and varnish removers
• Underarm deodorants (aerosol and spray types)
Minimum amount of Morpholine is used in helmet and equipment disinfectant spray and locker room disinfectant spray.
